This is the perfect place to go for drinks and food before a show at the Hippodrome or Everyman Theatre. It can get pretty busy before a show but if you get there a few hours before you'll definitely have enough time to enjoy yourself with some good eats and craft beer. They are known to have an amazing burger and this is certainly not something to miss, especially when they come with duck fat fries. The type of burger on the menu can vary, but all are guaranteed to be delicious. Also can't go wrong with the mac and cheese. If you're looking for something lighter, the falafel and their salads are also really, really great. A few seasons ago had an amazing strawberry and goat cheese salad that was so good it made me forget I was on a diet.

Beware- dangerous area for a good restaurant. Should be cake for downtown Baltimore natives. Chicken sandwich was great. Super tender and juicy. The 50/50 burger was orgasmic. It was so greasy which made the experience that much better. Shame on those who eat it with a knife and fork! Known for their beers, but there are no pale ales at all! Delicious ipas to choose from. Remember to be safe near the area!

Went to see Lion King at the Hippodrome Wed. night and got their later then planned due to crazy traffic. Found this place and had an amazing and fast dinner!! The Calamari PoBoy was huge and so tasted. The bread was fresh and perfectly toasted. Husband had a pork sandwich that had so much amazing flavor! Wish we would of had more time to check out their killer drink options! If your in a rush to eat before a performance but don't want the typical fast food this place it the place to go. Not sure it would of been as fast on a weekend but still worth a shot. Just don't order the steak if in a hurry, as advised by the staff. Definitely hope to stop on the spot again.

My husband and I ventured to Alewife on a trip to Baltimore. I checked it out on Yelp and Untapped before going, because we needed to know that they had beer. They had a really nice selection of beer, we were each able to get a few different beers we hadn't had before. We were there at an early dinner time and were able to sit at the bar easily. There were a few groups of people there, one quite large group, but that didn't slow our service or hinder our experience at all. I got a burger and my husband had a hot dog, both were gigantic and tasted great. Definitely hit the spot. Our bartender was nice and quickly gave us recommendations on beers that we might like to try based on the types of beer we prefer. He was well informed, knew what was local or what state another beer/brewery was from and answered all of our questions. Our food came out super quick and just as ordered.

How the heck did I miss writing a review for Alewife? Oh wait; now I remember. I was having too much fun catching up with a college buddy and enjoying the delicious food and fine beer pairings. Alewife is one serious hike from home and it still does not matter, in my book. Between out of town friends attending meetings in Baltimore and the promise of good food and cheer, the two visits I've made to this eclectic brew pub have both been memorable and pleasant. I love a finely crafted beer. I work hard and I don't often drink, so when I elect to have a beer - it has to deliver depth and complexity of flavor and also pair well with food. The food. Oh yes, Alewife's kitchen is really on point here. These folks served up an amazing wild boar hotdog. The unctuous but never gamey boar had a perfect grind that was toothy without ever becoming fibrous or tough. The addition of sweet and earthy spices only heightened the umami and cut well against the deep and hoppy notes of my beer. The fries were properly salted, hot, and crisp enough to play a starring role in a culinary variant of Jenga (if the spirit so moved you). What I've also come to notice is the food selection changes over time. While the culinary lens remains keenly focused on quality sourcing of eclectic local produce and meat selections, the changes make intermittent visits both welcoming and intriguing. Perhaps the highest compliment I can pay is that my mouth is now watering just from writing this review. 40 miles from home? Hmmm...never seemed so worth it. Oh yes, they also do trivia there. Don't miss out, if you've a hanker for that sort of thing. The madam MC is clearly accustomed to wrangling good natured if slightly buzzed patrons. Steer clear of violating house rules or she will let you know with a quickness ;-) Pub well, my friends.
